Ode to Africa
Our director, teachers, administrative staff, parents and extended family at Little Sun People are all affectionately addressed as Mama (for women) or Baba (for men). Mama or Baba precedes each first name (i.e. Mama Fela, Baba Fanzy). This cultivates the feeling of family and the sense of being a part of a "village" amongst Little Sun People. An old African proverb says that sticks in a bundle are unbreakable. So like our ancestors and many living in Africa today; this practice helps remind us that we are a community and encourages us to work together in teaching and raising our children.
